Are you interested in how to redesign your yard so that it can be a bounty of fresh food for you and your family? Do you struggle with the amount of time it requires to maintain a backyard food garden? Do you want your yard to also be a healthy, vibrant, diverse and beautiful mini-ecosystem?

"A forest garden is an edible ecosystem, a consciously designed community of mutually beneficial plants and animals intended for human food production" - Dave Jacke.

Forest gardens maximize the ecological health of the land and minimize maintenance and labour inputs from us. This is done by allowing ecological processes to maintain the system the same way an unmaintained forest is capable of maintaining itself without our help, just with the added benefit of the forest being designed to provide us with more food than an untended forest would.

This course is a great opportunity to learn about how you can do this yourself in your free yard space - no matter how small that space is.

This workshop will be a full day introduction to what forest gardening is all about. We will explore why we would want to create a forest garden, how we go about designing them and what benefits we can expect from them.

Half of the course will be hands-on where we will utilize forest gardening techniques to plant and establish the Emmanuel United Church Forest Garden.
